In May 2018, 22 volunteers from Merchology ventured out to the Coldwater Spring area of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area to help restore the landscape to its original state. March 8th, 2019 marks the 102nd annual International Women's Day! IWD represents different things in different countries around the world, but overall it is a day to celebrate women's rights and gender equality. This year's theme is 'Think equal, build smart, innovate for change', focusing on innovative ways in which to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women. We especially identified with this year's theme since one of our core values as a company is to embrace and drive change.

Merchology Volunteers at Coldwater Spring

On Tuesday Merchology volunteered with the Mississippi Park Connection and the National Park Service to remove three invasive plants from the beautiful Coldwater Spring in Minneapolis. Coldwater Spring was added to the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area in 2010 with the goal of restoring the landscape to its original state: an open landscape with oak savanna, prairie, and bluff top woodlands.

Generation Z is now entering the workforce in sizable numbers, shifting the national conversation from a longtime focus on Generation Y (also known as the Millennials). Gen Z generally refers to people born between the early 1990s and the mid-2000s, putting the oldest folks in this group in their early 20s. For a size comparison, it is estimated that 1 in 4 Americans fall in Gen Z, making them the third largest age group, behind Millennials and Gen X. According to Forbes, this Gen Z group is considered “technologically savvy, serious-minded, are often entrepreneurial and creative." Econsultancy reports that 96% of Gen Z owns a smartphone. Now that this cohort is joining the workforce, we must evaluate corporate gifts and incentives and learn what motivates and interests them. When done correctly with this group, you can use swag as a recruiting tool, a way to build your brand internally, and a technique to establish company loyalty.
